What to Know before Traveling to Greece

Aziza Kendrick is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, where she earned an MBA with concentrations in accounting and management information systems. One of Aziza Kendrick’s life goals is to visit at least 60 percent of the world’s countries.

People of all ages benefit from the experience of traveling abroad, but the impact of international travel is especially profound for young people. High school and college students should consider traveling abroad as part of their education.

Many colleges look favorably upon high school students who have traveled abroad. These students often demonstrate unique perspectives, intellectual and cultural engagement, and strong personal growth. International travel is a valuable experience that not only helps students become well rounded but increases their understanding of themselves and the world.

Students who study abroad have the valuable experience of immersion in a different culture. They learn about the educational system and social customs of the country and they form relationships with people of entirely different backgrounds from their own. All these experiences help students embrace diversity and personal challenge.

A 2010 study conducted by the Student & Youth Travel Association found that the majority of people who traveled during their youth experienced educational and financial success later in life. The vast majority obtained undergraduate degrees, and more than a quarter earned advanced degrees. In addition, the median household income for those surveyed was $75,000.
